Committee reviews Missouri’s allocation of taxpayer funds to improve government efficiency

The Missouri Senate Government Efficiency Committee has launched a new portal to gather feedback on how taxpayer money is being spent in the state. The goal of the portal is to streamline state functions and improve services for Missouri families. Committee chair Sen. Mary Elizabeth Coleman highlighted issues within the Missouri Children’s Division, despite receiving millions of dollars in funding, problems with temporary and permanent placements for foster kids persisted. The committee aims to hold departments accountable and address issues of fraud, waste, and abuse.

The Children’s Division has struggled to fill 100 additional worker positions to keep children out of state care. The state of Missouri reported a decrease in the number of children in foster care from 14,000 in January 2022 to 11,070 in January 2025. The committee will hear from department heads on ways to address these issues and ensure compliance with state statutes.

The portal, known as MO DOGE, is similar to a panel set up by former President Donald Trump and run by Elon Musk. Over 1,000 emails with ideas and feedback have been received since the portal’s launch. The committee is using this tool to focus its efforts on improving government efficiency and services for Missourians. This initiative is seen as a step towards accountability and transparency in government spending and operations.
