Top Concerns for Mid-Missouri Voters in the upcoming Election

A group of six voters from mid-Missouri with differing political views found common ground in a discussion about the issues that matter most to them ahead of the Nov. 5 election. The discussion was guided by KOMU 8’s John Murphy and Evie Allen. Among the participants, Kate Canterbury, Bryce Beal, Paul Harper, Anthony Lupo, Annabelle Simmons, and Aziza Rashid each shared their perspectives.

Canterbury, a self-employed lifelong Democrat, expressed her support for Kamala Harris for president, emphasizing the importance of investing in local politics. Beal, an attorney who lost in the Republican primary, will vote for Donald Trump and emphasized the need for post-election engagement. Harper, also an attorney and member of the Columbia School Board, will vote for Harris and highlighted the common ground in local issues.

Lupo, an Environmental Science professor and former chair of the Boone County Republican Party, supports Trump but emphasized the importance of learning from election outcomes. Simmons, a retired lifelong Republican and never-Trumper, will also vote for Harris, stressing the importance of grassroots voting. Rashid, a self-employed lifelong Missouri resident, remains undecided but highlighted the significance of local engagement.

The participants reflected on their views, emphasizing the importance of investing in local politics and finding common ground despite differing political views. The full discussion can be viewed for more insights.
