Former nanny alleges in legal action that author Neil Gaiman sexually assaulted her multiple times

Scarlett Pavlovich, the former nanny of best-selling fantasy writer Neil Gaiman and his estranged wife, Amanda Palmer, has filed lawsuits in federal court in Massachusetts, New York, and Wisconsin accusing Gaiman of repeatedly raping her and demanding that she call him “master.” She is seeking over $7 million in damages. Pavlovich and four other women came forward with abuse allegations against Gaiman on a podcast last year, and Pavlovich later detailed the allegations in a New York Magazine story. The lawsuit claims that Gaiman engaged in nonconsensual sex acts with Pavlovich and that Palmer played a role in presenting her to her husband. Pavlovich said that she felt like an “economic hostage” and had nowhere to go if she left the couple. The lawsuit also alleges that Gaiman continued to assault Pavlovich even after she was hospitalized and threatened to kill herself. When Pavlovich reported the rapes to the police, Palmer refused to talk to them, leading to no action being taken. Gaiman denied the allegations in a statement on his website and expressed regret for being “careless with people’s hearts.” Dark Horse Comics has since announced that they will no longer publish his works, and a planned movie adaptation of one of his books has been put on pause. Neither Gaiman nor Palmer have publicly commented on the recent lawsuits.
