Harding Women’s Tennis Makes History with Win Over Missouri State
SEARCY – The Harding women’s tennis team achieved a historic victory on Saturday by defeating NCAA Division I opponent Missouri State with a score of 4-3 at the David Elliott Tennis Complex. This win marked Harding’s first victory over a Division I team since April 10, 2017, when they beat Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
The match was tied at 3-3, with the deciding point coming down to the No. 1 singles match between Harding’s Alexia Zarate Valdez and Missouri State’s Elif Gunal. Zarate Valdez secured the win with a score of 6-4, 7-5 in a close, one hour and 57-minute match. Karli Roux also contributed to the victory by defeating Missouri State’s Lucy Latham 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2 singles, marking her second consecutive win against a Division I opponent.
With this win, Harding improved to 1-1 on the season, while Missouri State dropped to 0-5. The team will next face Drury on February 7 in Springfield, Missouri, followed by a match against Southwest Baptist on February 8 in the same location. The Lady Bisons will look to continue their success as they take on more tough opponents in the coming matches.
