Women’s Basketball Suffers Defeat to Tennessee State on Saturday


Southeast Missouri Women’s Basketball faced a tough loss against Tennessee State with a final score of 70-62. Despite a strong effort from senior Lexi McCully who led the Redhawks in scoring with 16 points, the team struggled to keep up with Tennessee State’s offense. Senior Skylar Barnes also contributed with 11 points, but it wasn’t enough to secure a win.

The Redhawks shot 33.3% from the field and 25% from three-point range, while also struggling at the free throw line with 81.3%. Despite outrebounding the Tigers, the Redhawks couldn’t capitalize on their opportunities.

The game saw some back-and-forth action with both teams going on scoring runs, but Tennessee State managed to maintain the lead throughout. Despite cutting the deficit to four points in the fourth quarter, the Redhawks were unable to catch up to Tennessee State, who ultimately secured the 70-62 victory.

The loss puts Southeast Missouri Women’s Basketball at a record of 4-17 overall and 2-10 in the Ohio Valley Conference. The team will look to bounce back in their next game against Morehead State on February 6th at 4:00 PM. With the season coming to a close, the Redhawks will aim to finish strong and prove themselves in the remaining games.
