The Jefferson City Jays and Lady Jays cross country programs are set to be inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame today in a ceremony in Springfield. The Jays have had 35 top-10 finishes in the state championships since 1972, with a Class 4 state title in 1996 and four runner-up finishes. The Lady Jays have had 11 top-four finishes, including a state title in 1994 and three runner-up finishes. They are one of two high school programs being honored, along with Lockwood High School volleyball era.
In addition to the Jefferson City programs, there are 19 individuals or families scheduled for induction, including former Kansas City Royal Johnny Damon, former St. Louis Cardinal Matt Adams, former Missouri Tiger football player Brock Olivo, former St. Louis Cardinal football player Willard Harrell, Republic High School girls basketball coach Kris Flood, the Godwin golf family from Poplar Bluff, former basketball coach Nyla Milleson, and Kansas City Chiefs executive Denny Thume.
The induction ceremony will celebrate the achievements of these outstanding individuals and teams in the world of sports.
