Oerther honored with global award in engineering education at Missouri S&T News and Events


Dr. Daniel B. Oerther, an environmental health engineering professor at Missouri S&T, has been honored with the Duncan Fraser Global Award for Excellence in Engineering Education by the International Federation of Engineering Education Societies (IFEES). Oerther was recognized for his innovative and impactful contributions to engineering education. The award, named after the late Dr. Duncan Fraser, was presented to Oerther during the World Engineering Education Forum in Sydney, Australia. Oerther, who has received numerous teaching awards throughout his career, was praised by University of Missouri System President Mun Choi for his dedication to finding solutions in research and education.

Oerther’s work in training and inspiring students from diverse backgrounds to address global challenges was highlighted as one of the reasons for his recognition. He expressed gratitude for the award, acknowledging the support of his students and the privilege of teaching and mentoring them. The financial support for the award was provided by sponsorships from MathWorks and ABET, Inc.
