Sarah Silverman reveals she has become less politically outspoken as she believes people are tired of hearing from celebrities

Comedian Sarah Silverman recently explained in an interview with the Minnesota Star Tribune why she was not as vocal about her political views during the recent election season. In the past, Silverman had been actively involved in supporting Democratic candidates like President Obama, but this time around, she felt that voters were not interested in hearing from celebrities about politics. Silverman cited her busy comedy tour schedule as another reason for her reduced political involvement. Despite not being as outspoken, she did use her platform to repost the thoughts of others and advocate for issues like abortion rights. Looking back, Silverman expressed regret for not doing more to push for voter engagement, like she did in the 2008 election with the “Great Schlep” campaign.

While Silverman’s approach to political engagement may have been more subdued this time, other celebrities, like Eminem, Bruce Springsteen, Oprah, and Julia Roberts, were actively campaigning for Vice President Kamala Harris in the final weeks of the election. The Harris campaign was criticized for spending over $10 million on star-studded events as part of a $1.5 billion spending spree that ultimately ended in defeat to President-elect Donald Trump. Despite the mixed results of celebrity involvement in politics, Silverman and other figures continue to use their platforms to advocate for causes they believe in and encourage civic participation among Americans.
