Black bears are becoming a more common sight in the St. Louis region, prompting the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) to offer a free virtual program to educate residents about these animals. The Missouri Black Bears program will take place on Friday, December 13, from 3 – 4:30 p.m. MDC naturalists will cover important information about the expanding bear population in the state, which has made an impressive comeback after once being considered extirpated.
Participants will learn about the history of black bears in Missouri, research efforts to help them return to their former range, and how to reduce human-bear conflict as their numbers continue to grow. The program will be held via Webex, with participants having the opportunity to engage in a Question and Answer portion with the naturalists.
To participate, individuals must register in advance at http://short.mdc.mo.gov/4Kb to receive an online meeting link. Log in instructions will be provided beforehand. This program is open to the public and is a great opportunity for those interested in learning more about black bears in Missouri.
