Police say Colorado dentist accused of poisoning wife’s protein shakes attempted to murder detective

James Craig, a Colorado dentist accused of fatally poisoning his wife’s protein shakes, is now facing new charges for allegedly plotting to kill a detective involved in the case. The murder charge against Craig in relation to his wife’s death remains, but additional charges of solicitation to commit first-degree murder and perjury were filed last week. It is unclear if Craig has a new attorney in light of his previous lawyer withdrawing from the case. Records show that Craig was in jail with the inmate he allegedly tried to hire for the murder plot. This inmate has not been charged in connection to the case.

Authorities previously accused Craig of poisoning his wife Angela with cyanide and tetrahydrozoline, leading to her death in March 2023. Investigations revealed that Craig had purchased potassium cyanide online prior to his wife’s death and had it delivered to his dental practice. His business partner, upon learning of the purchase, reported it as suspicious to authorities, leading to further investigation.

The trial for Craig’s murder charge was set to begin with jury selection but has been indefinitely postponed since his defense lawyer withdrew, citing concerns about his client’s actions. Craig has pleaded not guilty to the murder charge and has denied any involvement in his wife’s death. The case continues to be under investigation, with authorities withholding further details about the alleged plot to kill the detective involved in the investigation.
