Handsome Brook Farms, a New York-based company, is recalling approximately 10,800 retail units of organic eggs sold at Costco due to concerns of potential salmonella contamination. The affected eggs are the organic, pasture-raised, 24-count eggs sold under Costco’s Kirkland Signature brand with Julian code 327 and a “use by” date of Jan. 6, 2025. These specific cartons were sold in 25 Costco stores in Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee starting from Nov. 22. Handsome Brook Farms discovered that eggs not intended for stores were mistakenly packaged and distributed in retail packaging, prompting the recall. No other products are affected by this recall. So far, there have been no reports of illness related to the potentially contaminated eggs, and the recall is being conducted in cooperation with the FDA. Consumers who have purchased the affected product are advised to stop consuming it and return the eggs to their local Costco store for a full refund, or dispose of the product. Handsome Brook Farms is implementing additional supply chain controls and retraining to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future.
