Former Utah Tech University President Richard “Biff” Williams will continue leading Missouri State University despite allegations of misconduct that led to his resignation in Utah. The decision to support Williams came after the Faculty Senate at Missouri State voted no-confidence in his leadership, followed by a similar resolution at Utah Tech.
Williams, who apologized to the Missouri campus but not to Utah Tech, faced accusations of creating a toxic culture at the school and retaliation against employees who tried to address it. The allegations included a controversial gag gift given by Williams to a member of his Cabinet.
The Board of Governors at Missouri State has high expectations for its leaders and expects Williams to strengthen relationships across the campus community. Williams denied some of the allegations and revealed that he informed the board chair about the allegations shortly after his hiring.
Williams began his new role at Missouri State six months after resigning from Utah Tech and will work on actions to address the concerns raised by the allegations. The board at Missouri State emphasized that the decision to support Williams was made after considering all viewpoints and is committed to moving forward positively with his leadership.
