Leilani Simon, a Georgia woman, was sentenced to life in prison for killing her 20-month-old son, Quinton Simon, whose remains were found in a landfill after she reported him missing in 2022. Simon was convicted of murder last month and sentenced to life with the possibility of parole. The Chatham County Judge Tammy Stokes noted the impact of Quinton’s life and death on the community before pronouncing the sentence.
Simon reported Quinton missing from their home near Savannah in October 2022. Authorities soon suspected foul play and Simon became the prime suspect. Quinton’s body was discovered in a landfill five weeks after he was reported missing. The indictment alleged that Simon caused Quinton’s death with an unknown object, causing serious bodily injury, and then disposing of him in a trash bin a few miles from their home.
Simon was found guilty of malice murder, two counts of felony murder, concealing the death of another, and other charges related to false reports and statements. She was sentenced to life in prison with an additional 10 years. Simon stood and nodded in acknowledgment as the sentence was read, but did not speak. Judge Stokes concluded the hearing with a wish for peace in the aftermath of the tragic events.
