Matt Gaetz has no intentions of returning to Congress after withdrawing his name for attorney general

Former Rep. Matt Gaetz of Florida announced that he will not be returning to Congress after withdrawing from consideration to be President-elect Donald Trump’s attorney general amidst sexual misconduct allegations. Gaetz stated that he has been in elected office for 14 years and feels that it is time to pursue other goals in life, including spending more time with his wife and family. He expressed excitement for new candidates running for his seat in Northwest Florida, believing they will provide great representation for the district. Gaetz plans to continue fighting for President Trump and assisting him in any way he can, but believes that eight years in Congress is enough and it is time for new blood to come in. He emphasized his commitment to continue supporting Trump and working towards his goals, but in a different capacity outside of Congress. Gaetz’s former office did not respond to requests for comment on his decision to not return to Congress.
