Canton Man Arrested on Multiple Felony Charges
CANTON, Mo. — Peter Jay Rayhart, Jr., a 47-year-old Canton resident, was apprehended Wednesday after local law enforcement confirmed he was wanted on several felony charges in Stoddard County, Missouri. Rayhart, who resides at 1001 White Street in Canton, was taken into custody following a coordinated effort by multiple law enforcement agencies.
According to a press release from the Lewis County Sheriff’s Department, officers received a tip regarding Rayhart’s active warrant. Upon confirming the warrant, law enforcement officers approached his residence to effectuate the arrest. However, as they arrived, Rayhart became aware of their presence and retreated inside. Following a period of negotiations, he exited the residence without incident.
Rayhart faces serious legal repercussions, including charges for nonconsensual dissemination of private sexual images, a class D felony, as well as tampering with a witness and harassment, both of which are classified as class D and class E felonies, respectively. After being taken into custody, he was booked into the Lewis County Jail, where he will remain before being transferred to Stoddard County to face the charges.
The successful apprehension of Rayhart was the result of collaborative efforts between the Canton Police Department, La Grange Police Department, Missouri State Highway Patrol, and the Lewis County Sheriff’s Department.
