Humane Society of Missouri Rescues Horses from Neglect

Hazelwood, MO – On November 20, the Humane Society of Missouri (HSMO) successfully rescued six horses from a substandard barn on private property. This rescue operation marks the second intervention at the same site, as nine horses were previously saved on October 17, bringing the total to 15 horses removed from the property.

According to a press release from HSMO, the barn has now been condemned due to its unsatisfactory conditions, and no other horses remain on-site. The horses were transferred to Longmeadow Rescue Ranch for rehabilitation and care. Rescuers reported that the animals faced significant health issues, including severe dental disease, lameness, and one horse with an open wound, highlighting the dire circumstances leading to their rescue.

HSMO expressed gratitude to the Hazelwood Police Department for their collaboration in the rescue efforts, emphasizing the importance of community partnership in addressing cases of animal cruelty. "We are thankful to the local authorities for their support, which was crucial in ensuring these horses received the help they desperately needed," the organization stated.

As part of the broader mission to combat animal cruelty, HSMO coordinates with local law enforcement through its Animal Cruelty Task Force, working tirelessly to protect vulnerable animals and prevent future incidents of neglect. The organization urges the public to report any suspected cases of animal abuse.

This operation underscores HSMO’s commitment to animal welfare and the ongoing need for vigilance in protecting at-risk animals throughout the community. With continued support, HSMO is dedicated to providing a safe and nurturing environment for all rescued animals.
