The International Criminal Court (ICC) has issued arrest warrants for former Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Benny Gantz for crimes against humanity and war crimes committed in Gaza between October 2023 and May 2024. The warrants are related to accusations of intentionally depriving the civilian population in Gaza of essential items, such as food, water, and medicine, as well as obstructing humanitarian organizations from providing aid to those in need. ICC Chief Prosecutor Karim A.A. Khan had previously filed applications for the warrants in May for Netanyahu, Gantz, and other senior Israeli officials, as well as for Hamas figures, including leader Yahya Sinwar, who was killed in Gaza in October. The court also issued a separate arrest warrant for Mohammed Deif, an alleged architect of attacks in Gaza, who was reportedly killed by Israel earlier this year. The ICC initially sought warrants for Sinwar and Ismail Haniyeh, the political leader of Hamas, but withdrew the applications after confirming their deaths. This is a developing story, and updates are expected.
