Missouri State Basketball and Cuonzo Martin Secure Third Consecutive Victory Against UT Arlington

Missouri State Basketball Triumphs in Cuonzo Martin’s First Homestand

In an impressive homecoming, Cuonzo Martin’s Missouri State Bears secured a 78-68 victory over the UT Arlington Mavericks on Tuesday, marking an unbeaten stretch during Martin’s first homestand since his return as head coach. The Bears, now 3-1 for the season, will soon embark on a three-game series at the Cayman Islands Classic before returning home on December 7 to face Indiana State.

The game showcased a gritty performance rather than a stellar offensive display, as fans witnessed the scrappy style of play synonymous with Martin’s leadership. Missouri State capitalized on opportunities inside the paint and improved their free-throw shooting, a crucial aspect that had hampered them in earlier matches. After a challenging start to the season, the team finally found their rhythm at the free-throw line, successfully converting 29 of 34 attempts.

Despite UT Arlington narrowing the gap to just three points with 6:04 left on the clock, Missouri State maintained control of the game. Key contributions from junior Vincent Brady II, who scored seven of his 14 points during a decisive second-half run, helped the Bears pull away. True freshman Zaxton King was also instrumental, leading the team with 18 points and contributing vital free throws in the final moments.

As the Bears continue their quest for consistency, their focus on driving to the basket will be critical, especially considering their tendency for close games this season. With optimism brewing for the future under Martin’s guidance, fans are eagerly anticipating more solid performances from the team in the upcoming games.
