Hundreds of teenagers from across Missouri recently had the opportunity to learn about state government first-hand in the capital city of Jefferson City. The program, called “Youth in Government,” allowed the teens to experience the legislative process in action, as they took on the roles of lawmakers, lobbyists, and journalists.
During the three-day event, the teens participated in mock legislative sessions, where they debated and voted on bills that were designed to address real-world issues. They also had the chance to meet with state officials, including Governor Mike Parson, to discuss their ideas and concerns.
One of the goals of the program is to help young people develop a better understanding of how government works and how they can be actively involved in the political process. By participating in Youth in Government, the teens gained valuable insight into the inner workings of the state government and learned important skills such as public speaking, critical thinking, and teamwork.
