Pennsylvania Supreme Court halts ballot counting for those with incorrect dates

The Pennsylvania Supreme Court has ordered election officials in Bucks, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties to stop counting mail-in ballots that have the wrong date or are missing dates from their outer envelopes. This ruling comes as a victory for Republican Dave McCormick, who holds a narrow lead over Democratic Sen. Bob Casey in a close Senate race that is heading to a recount. McCormick’s campaign expressed satisfaction with the ruling, while Casey’s campaign accused Republicans of trying to disenfranchise voters by challenging valid provisional ballots. Despite McCormick declaring victory, NBC News has not yet projected a winner in the race, as the margin is still too close to call. The recount, triggered by Pennsylvania rules due to the narrow margin, is set to begin this week and must be completed by November 26th. The Republican National Committee and the Republican Party of Pennsylvania had filed the petition seeking a court order to stop counting ballots with incorrect dates, arguing that they should be considered ineligible. The three counties in question had been counting these ballots, claiming that an incorrect date did not necessarily mean the voter was ineligible or that the ballot was illegitimate.
