Tragic Accident on I-29 Claims Three Lives, Injures Several Others
Atchison County, Missouri – A devastating crash on Interstate 29 resulted in the deaths of three individuals and left three others injured early Sunday morning. The Missouri Highway Patrol reports that authorities responded to the scene around 7:22 a.m., following a series of collisions that unfolded on the highway.
The incident began when a 29-year-old man from Bellevue, Nebraska, reportedly driving in the wrong direction, collided head-on with a 2013 Ford Focus. This vehicle then veered off the roadway, leading to a rollover that ejected an 18-year-old woman. Both the woman and the male driver, also 18, tragically lost their lives at the scene. Another passenger from Kearney, Missouri, survived the crash but sustained serious injuries and was taken to the hospital.
The wrong-way driver was pronounced dead on arrival after crashing into a bridge abutment. A one-year-old child traveling in the vehicle was also injured and treated for moderate injuries. Reports indicate the child had been part of a kidnapping situation where a woman was taken with her child and later dropped off at a hospital by the man before fleeing with the toddler.
Additionally, two other vehicles were involved in subsequent accidents while attempting to avoid the initial crash. One person from these vehicles was reported to have sustained injuries and required medical attention.
Authorities have not released the names of those involved, and investigations into the accident are ongoing. Further details surrounding the circumstances of the crash, including the kidnapping case, are also under review.
