North Korea has reportedly sent 1,500 special forces troops to Russia for training and acclimatization, with the potential for deployment in the war in Ukraine according to South Korea’s spy agency. The agency has also used facial recognition technology to identify North Korean officers supporting Russian forces in Ukraine. North Korea has shipped a significant amount of artillery rounds, ballistic missiles, and anti-tank rockets to Russia in recent months. This military cooperation between Russia and North Korea has been confirmed by the spy agency. South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol held an emergency security meeting to address the situation, considering the dispatch of North Korean troops to Russia a grave security threat. South Korea and its allies are closely monitoring the situation and will respond with all available means. Despite pressure to provide lethal weapons to Ukraine, South Korea has not openly done so, as it has focused on its role as a global arms exporter. The South Korean government will continue to track and respond to North Korea’s activities in collaboration with its allies.
