Mizzou Athletics Cross Country Teams Take Second Place at Crimson Classic


The University of Missouri’s cross country teams had a strong showing at the Crimson Classic, finishing second in the men’s and women’s races. The men’s team finished with a total of 75 points, just behind the University of Alabama’s 52 points. The women’s team finished with 84 points, also behind Alabama who had 50 points. Both teams showed impressive performances on the challenging course.

Individually, Mizzou had several standout runners. On the men’s side, redshirt junior Thomas George finished first for the Tigers and third overall in the race with a time of 24:48. Sophomore Luke Siedhoff also had a strong performance, finishing seventh overall with a time of 25:06. On the women’s side, redshirt sophomore Lexi Maddox led the Tigers with a 16th place finish and a time of 22:00. Freshman Ellen Sheffield also had a solid race, finishing 17th with a time of 22:06.

Head coach Marc Burns was pleased with the teams’ performances, noting that they showed great competitiveness and determination throughout the race. He emphasized the importance of facing strong competition early in the season in order to prepare for future meets.

The Crimson Classic served as a valuable opportunity for the Tigers to test their skills against top competition and gain experience on a challenging course. With their second-place finishes, both the men’s and women’s teams demonstrated their potential and set a strong foundation for the rest of the season.
