North Korea has blown up sections of an inter-Korean road on its side of the heavily militarized border between the two Koreas. South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff confirmed that parts of the road north of the military demarcation line were destroyed. This action has led to increased tensions on the Korean Peninsula, with South Korea increasing surveillance and readiness. Pyongyang accused its rival of sending drones over its capital, Pyongyang, which resulted in the distribution of anti-North leaflets. North Korean leader Kim Jong Un held a meeting with defense and security officials to discuss how to respond to this perceived provocation. The South Korean military declined to confirm whether they were responsible for sending the alleged drones. This escalation comes after months of escalating rhetoric between the two countries.
