A man posing as a utility worker in Michigan has been charged with murder in a “gruesome” attack. Carlos Jose Hernandez, 37, was caught on camera trying to gain entry to a house by claiming to be checking for gas leaks. He was arrested in Louisiana and charged with felony murder and unlawful imprisonment. The victim, Hussein Murray, was found dead in his basement with his wife tied up. The suspects, wearing masks and vests, duct-taped the wife and demanded money and jewelry. The woman managed to call 911, leading to Hernandez’s arrest. A manhunt is ongoing for the second suspect. The couple may have been targeted due to their jewelry and pawn shop business. DTE Energy issued a warning to verify the identity of workers before letting them into homes. Felony murder carries a life without parole sentence, while unlawful imprisonment is punishable by up to 15 years in prison. Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald called it a brutal crime and authorized the highest charge. The community is shocked by the attack on an elderly couple in their home. The suspects may have known the victims had valuables, leading to the tragic events that unfolded. The family of the victim expressed their heartbreak and resolve to bond together during this difficult time.
