The latest data on EU and Eurozone unemployment has shown a stable rate of 6.4% in August, remaining the same as June and July, but down 0.2% from the previous year. Across the EU, more than 13 million people are currently jobless, with Spain, Greece, and Sweden having the highest unemployment rates.
Youth unemployment remains a concern, with over 2.7 million unemployed individuals under the age of 25 in August 2024, making up 14.3% of the bloc. However, there has been a slight improvement compared to the previous year. Spain, Sweden, and Estonia have the highest rates of youth unemployment, while Germany, Malta, and the Netherlands are performing better in this regard.
Interestingly, there are more unemployed women than men in the EU, with women facing an unemployment rate of 6.1% compared to 5.7% for men. The rates for female unemployment are highest in Greece, Spain, and Sweden.
Overall, the data indicates that while there has been some improvement in terms of unemployment rates compared to the previous year, there are still significant challenges faced by certain countries and demographics within the EU and Eurozone. Policymakers will need to carefully consider these figures and trends in order to address the issue of unemployment effectively.
