Harris agrees to participate in second debate scheduled for October

Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign has accepted an invitation to participate in a second debate with former President Donald Trump on Oct. 23, hosted by CNN. Harris’ campaign chair, Jennifer O’Malley Dillon, stated that the American people deserve another opportunity to see the two candidates debate before casting their ballots. The format and setup would be the same as the CNN debate in June that Trump attended and praised. This decision comes after Harris expressed interest in having another debate during an event in Georgia.

However, Trump’s campaign spokesperson, Steven Cheung, pointed to a Truth Social post where Trump stated that there would be no third debate, as he did not believe it was necessary. Trump also voiced concerns about the timing of another debate, stating that it is too late as voting has already begun. The statement from Harris’ campaign comes after the first debate between Trump and Harris on Sept. 10, hosted by ABC.

If the Oct. 23 debate were to take place, it would be less than two weeks before Election Day and after early voting had already begun in many states. The potential debate would give voters another chance to see the two candidates discuss key issues before making their decision at the polls.
