Leslie Boileau, a former Florida sheriff’s deputy, was arrested for manslaughter after accidentally shooting his girlfriend at their home in Ocala. Boileau called 911 to report the incident, stating that the shooting occurred while he and his girlfriend were handling and dry-firing firearms. He claimed that he accidentally discharged a loaded round while demonstrating the use of a rifle, resulting in the fatal shooting of his girlfriend. The Ocala Police Department found physical evidence that corroborates this account and Boileau was taken into custody for questioning before being arrested. Boileau, who worked as a deputy with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office for eight years, was immediately terminated from his position after the incident. The firearm used in the shooting was not his work firearm. Ocala Police Chief Mike Balken described the shooting as a tragic incident and offered condolences to the victim’s family. Sheriff Billy Woods expressed heartbreak for the victim’s family and noted that the actions of one officer can have a profound impact on the entire law enforcement community. The Ocala Police Department has the support of the Sheriff’s Office as they continue to investigate this tragic incident.
