Wealthy donors poured millions of dollars into super PACs supporting various political candidates and causes in August, according to reports filed with the Federal Election Commission. Major donations were made to MAGA Inc., a super PAC supporting former President Donald Trump, by individuals such as Diane Hendricks, Howard Lutnick, and Paul Singer. On the Democratic side, tech entrepreneurs were the main contributors to FF PAC, a super PAC supporting Vice President Kamala Harris. Donors included Dustin Moskovitz, Reed Hastings, and Jeff Lawson.
Super PACs like FF PAC and MAGA Inc. do not have donation limits, making them attractive for big political donors. In August, Club for Growth Action, a conservative super PAC, received $5 million donations each from Jeff Yass and Richard Uihlein. Yass and Uihlein are known for being major GOP donors. On the Democratic side, House Majority PAC received $600,000 from Amos Hostetter Jr., a donor with a history of supporting anti-Trump groups.
The reports covered donations from August 1 to August 31, which coincided with Vice President Harris becoming the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee. While some donors gave to both Democratic and Republican causes, others like Hastings publicly called for President Joe Biden to step aside from his re-election campaign earlier this year.Overall, the reports show significant financial support from wealthy individuals for both Democratic and Republican candidates and causes during the election season.
