Israeli army reports three Israelis killed by gunman crossing from Jordan at border

Israeli authorities reported that a gunman from Jordan crossed the Allenby Bridge border in the West Bank and killed three Israeli civilians before being shot dead by security forces. This incident marked the first attack of its kind along the Jordanian border since Hamas initiated an assault on southern Israel, igniting the conflict in Gaza and escalating tensions in the region. The attack occurred in a commercial cargo area controlled by Israel, where Jordanian trucks unload goods entering the West Bank. Following the incident, Israel closed all three of its land border crossings with Jordan, which includes the King Hussein Bridge. Dozens of trailers cross the bridge daily, transporting goods from Jordan and the Gulf to supply both the West Bank and Israeli markets.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu condemned the attack, describing the terrorist’s actions as cold-blooded murder. Meanwhile, Hamas official Sami Abu Zuhri praised the attack as a response to Israel’s actions in Gaza and predicted more similar actions to come. The Jordanian border official reported that at least two dozen Jordanian truck drivers were detained by Israel for questioning following the incident. Israel and Jordan have a peace treaty dating back to 1994 and maintain close security cooperation. Overall, the incident at the Allenby Bridge crossing highlighted the ongoing conflict and tensions in the region.
