Houthis Shoot Down US MQ-9 Reaper Drone in Yemen as Tensions Rise in Israel-Palestine Conflict

The Houthi rebels in Yemen claim to have shot down a United States military drone over Marib, with the drone reportedly costing $30 million. The group has shown solidarity with Palestinians by attacking ships with links to Israel during the ongoing conflict in Gaza. The Houthi forces have stated that they will continue to strengthen their defensive capabilities to confront joint air strikes by the US and the UK. The US military has not confirmed the drone attack nor the claimed air strikes against the Houthis.

In previous incidents, the US military has accused the Houthis of launching reckless attacks on oil tankers in the Red Sea. The Houthis have claimed responsibility for targeting a crude oil tanker, but have denied targeting a Saudi tanker. There have been concerns about the environmental impact of these attacks, with footage showing explosions on oil tankers. The Houthis have also staged attacks in Tel Aviv, killing one person, in response to Israel’s actions in Gaza.

The ongoing conflict in Yemen has resulted in multiple attacks and counterattacks between the Houthis and US-led forces. The situation remains tense with the threat of further attacks in the region. The international community continues to monitor the situation closely to prevent further escalation of violence in the area.
