Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill was briefly detained by police before the team’s Week 1 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The incident occurred near the team’s home stadium during a traffic stop. Hill was seen on video being placed in handcuffs, but was later released. The Dolphins confirmed that he and his teammates arrived safely at the stadium for the game.
Hill, who is entering his third season with the Dolphins, has a history of legal issues. In 2014, he was arrested for assaulting his pregnant girlfriend and pleaded guilty to domestic assault. In 2019, he was investigated for allegedly battering his young son, but no charges were filed. In 2023, he settled with an employee who accused him of assault after a disagreement, but again faced no charges or disciplinary action from the NFL.
The police stated that they were reviewing the incident involving Hill, and the team’s statement indicated that he would still be available to play in the game. Despite his troubled past, Hill has continued to play in the NFL and remains a key player for the Dolphins. The incident adds to the controversy surrounding the talented but troubled wide receiver.
