Protesters in Tel Aviv are expressing their frustration with the Israeli government’s handling of ceasefire talks with Hamas and the lack of progress in securing the release of their loved ones who are being held captive in Gaza. The relatives of hostages held by Hamas have accused Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of potentially derailing negotiations with his new demands for control over the Philadelphi Corridor. This demand has become a central obstacle in the talks, with Hamas insisting on a full Israeli withdrawal from Gaza as part of a truce deal. The families of hostages are upset with Netanyahu, saying that his actions could be sacrificing their relatives. The United States is working on a new proposal for a ceasefire and hostage release deal in hopes of ending the 11-month-old war. The death toll in Gaza is over 40,000, with no distinction between combatants and civilians in the count by the Hamas-run health ministry. In Israel, the death toll is over 1,100, with around 70 hostages believed to still be alive in Gaza. The families of these hostages are demanding more action from the Israeli government to secure the release of their loved ones and bring an end to the ongoing conflict.
