Missouri State University Athletics Home Opener Spoiled as Tulsa Defeats Volleyball Bears 3-1

The Missouri State University women’s volleyball team had a tough start to their home season opener as they were defeated by the Tulsa Golden Hurricane in a 3-1 match on Friday night. The Bears put up a strong fight but were ultimately unable to secure the victory.

The Tulsa Golden Hurricane came out strong in the first set, taking an early lead and never looking back. The Bears fought hard to stay in the game but ultimately fell short, losing the set 25-21. In the second set, Missouri State showed their resilience and determination, battling back to take the set 25-23 and even the score at 1-1.

However, Tulsa regained their momentum in the third set, pulling ahead early and maintaining their lead to win 25-18. The Bears once again fought back in the fourth set, but ultimately could not overcome the Golden Hurricane’s strong performance, losing the set 25-20 and the match 3-1.

Despite the loss, there were some standout performances from the Bears, including strong offensive plays from several players. Freshman middle blocker Sophie Fairman led the team with 13 kills, while sophomore outside hitter Ava Verlinden added 11 kills and eight digs.

The loss to Tulsa puts Missouri State at a 1-4 record for the season so far. The team will look to bounce back from this defeat as they continue their homestand and prepare for their next match. The Bears will be back in action on Sunday as they take on the Wichita State Shockers in their second home match of the season.
