Former President Donald Trump has pleaded not guilty to charges in a revised election interference indictment. Trump’s attorney, John Lauro, confirmed this during a hearing in federal court in Washington, DC. The case charges Trump with plotting to overturn the results of the 2020 election leading up to the January 6th riot at the Capitol. Judge Tanya Chutkan is presiding over the case, where arguments from Trump’s lawyers and prosecutors are being heard.
In a separate issue, White House officials have called on Russian President Vladimir Putin to stop commenting on the upcoming US presidential election. Putin recently joked about supporting Vice President Kamala Harris, prompting a response from the White House urging him to refrain from interfering in US elections.
Meanwhile, Hunter Biden, son of President Joe Biden, is beginning his second federal trial of the year in Los Angeles, where he faces charges of tax evasion. The trial comes in the wake of his conviction on felony gun charges in June. Biden has been accused of failing to pay taxes on time and filing false returns.
These developments come as the presidential campaign heats up, with Trump and Harris preparing for their upcoming debate. ABC News announced that both candidates have accepted the debate rules, including muted microphones when the other candidate is speaking. The debate is set to take place on September 10th in Philadelphia.
