Joey Chestnut and Takeru Kobayashi face off in a hot dog-eating competition on Labor Day

On Labor Day, Netflix will stream a highly anticipated live showdown between competitive eaters Joey Chestnut and Takeru Kobayashi. Chestnut, a 16-time champion, was ruled ineligible for the Nathan’s Famous International Hot Dog Eating Contest this year, sparking disappointment among fans. Kobayashi, a six-time champion, retired from competitive eating five years ago due to health concerns but is returning for this special event.

The event, titled “Chestnut vs. Kobayashi: Unfinished Beef,” marks the first time these two legends have faced off in 15 years. Despite his absence from this year’s July 4 contest, Chestnut is eager to push himself and make world records during the upcoming competition. On the other hand, Kobayashi, known as the Tsunami, sees this as a one-day return to competitive eating and a meaningful opportunity to compete against Chestnut after his retirement.

The event will challenge the eaters with new rules, such as no dunking hot dogs in water or separating the weiners from the bread. In addition to the main event, there will be undercard events featuring other competitive eaters taking on Olympians in a chicken wing-eating contest and attempting to break records for eating watermelons in three minutes.

Both Chestnut and Kobayashi have a history of competing against each other, with Chestnut emerging as the pre-eminent champion in recent years. This live streaming event on Netflix promises to be an exciting and competitive showcase of eating prowess between these two iconic figures in the world of competitive eating.
