Several bills passed by Missouri legislators and signed by Governor Mike Parson have officially gone into effect on August 28th. One of the bills, Senate Bill 727, focuses on education and scholarships, modifying the Missouri Empowerment Scholarship Accounts Program to increase the maximum amount of credits available.
The bill also includes provisions for a Family Paced Education school, changes in homeschooling regulations, and requirements for teacher preparation programs. Additionally, the bill establishes the Elementary Literacy Fund and the Small Schools Grant appropriation.
Another bill, SB 754, includes provisions for Blair’s Law, Max’s Law, and Valentine’s Law, addressing issues such as celebratory gunfire, penalties for injuring or killing a police animal, and fleeing a stop or detention of a motor vehicle.
Furthermore, Governor Parson signed HB 1751 to increase the distance for issuing permits to solid waste disposal areas, HB 2057 to modify the definition of video service, and HB 2062 to authorize local governments to collect delinquent taxes.
Lastly, HB 2634 specifies that no public funds will be sent to or spent on any abortion facility or affiliate, and prohibits reimbursement to such facilities under the Uninsured Women’s Health Program.
Overall, these new laws are aimed at addressing a wide range of issues from education and scholarships to public safety and taxation, reflecting the state’s ongoing efforts to improve various aspects of governance and public policy.
