On August 28, 2024, Sarah Rahanuma, a journalist with a private television channel in Bangladesh, was found floating in a lake in the capital city of Dhaka. Passers-by spotted Rahanuma in the lake after midnight and rushed her to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where she was declared dead by the doctor on duty. Rahanuma, who was the newsroom editor of GTV, was found at Hatirjheel Lake, according to police officials. The cause of her death has not been confirmed by authorities. The hospital’s police office in-charge, Mohammad Bachchu Miah, stated that the body has been kept in the morgue and the matter has been reported to the concerned police station. Mohammad Sagar, a pedestrian who first spotted Rahanuma, helped take her to the hospital. He mentioned that people had seen a woman floating in the waters of Hatirjheel Lake and her identity was established through her office ID card. The incident has shocked the local community and the journalist community, with investigations ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding Rahanuma’s death.
