A Pakistani truck driver named Munir Ahmed was shot five times by armed militants in Balochistan, Pakistan, in one of the most widespread attacks in years. Ahmed, initially thought to be dead, was rescued and taken to the hospital where it was discovered that he was alive. The attackers stopped trucks and buses, killing dozens of people, including civilians. The Baloch Liberation Army claimed responsibility for the attacks, aimed at creating secession of the resource-rich province. At least 70 people were killed in the attacks and subsequent military operations. Ahmed was the only survivor among his three colleagues who were killed in the attack. Despite being shot five times, Ahmed was in stable condition in the hospital. He was upset by his colleagues’ deaths and uncertain about the future of his livelihood after such a violent disruption. The incident highlighted the ongoing security challenges faced by residents and travelers in volatile regions like Balochistan.
