‘Swifties for Kamala’ team up with Carole King and Elizabeth Warren to raise $142,000

Members of Taylor Swift’s fan base, known as Swifties, have organized a group called “Swifties for Kamala” to support Vice President Kamala Harris in the upcoming presidential election. Although Taylor Swift has not publicly endorsed a candidate this year, the group has raised $142,000 for Harris, showing their dedication to the cause. The organization has over 72,000 followers on X and over 48,000 on Instagram. During a recent Zoom event, key figures such as singer-songwriter Carole King and several politicians expressed their support for Harris, encouraging attendees to get involved in the campaign.

The group’s inspiration came from grassroots organization Win With Black Women, which raised $1.5 million for Harris shortly after she was endorsed by Joe Biden. Other organizations such as “White Dudes for Harris” and “Dead Heads for Harris” have also hosted fundraising events to support Harris after Biden announced he would not seek re-election. The Swifties have mobilized online, feeling empowered to support Harris even without Swift’s endorsement. Speakers at the group’s Zoom event praised attendees for their resilience and activism, emphasizing the importance of their involvement in the campaign.

Swift’s political activism began with her documentary “Miss Americana,” which documented her public denouncement of Senator Marsha Blackburn. Despite Blackburn’s victory, Swift’s efforts led to a surge in voter registrations, particularly among young people. The “Swifties for Kamala” group has tapped into this spirit of activism within the fandom, demonstrating the power of grassroots organizing and the impact of celebrity influence on political engagement.
