Missouri pesticide applicators are advised to double-check their certifications for 2025 as new rules for the state’s Pesticide Use Act will go into effect in January. This includes a minimum age requirement for certified applicators, a five-year recertification limit, and specialized certifications for different application methods. The state had delayed the rule updates for a few years but is now preparing for the changes mandated by the EPA.
Applicators can attend in-person or online trainings offered by the University of Missouri to ensure they meet the new requirements. Those wanting to apply restricted use pesticides, such as atrazine, will need a fresh certification for the upcoming year. MU has stated that individuals looking to apply pesticides with aerial equipment or soil fumigation will need new categories on their license and would benefit from the trainings.
Director Chris Chinn emphasizes that things will be different in 2025 and urges applicators to be proactive in obtaining the necessary certifications. While some states are also facing similar challenges with EPA mandates, Missouri feels prepared and ready for the changes ahead. It is important for pesticide applicators in Missouri to stay informed and ensure they are compliant with the new regulations in order to continue their work effectively in the upcoming year.
