Despite a challenging legislative session in Jefferson City this year, several bills managed to make their way to Governor Mike Parson’s desk and receive his signature. Effective Wednesday, new Missouri laws are set to bring about several changes, including property rights laws related to raising chickens, establishing land banks for revitalizing abandoned properties, and preventing eviction moratoriums at the local level.
In addition, there are new laws regarding senior tax credits, funding Planned Parenthood, education reforms, prosecuting children as adults for certain felonies, public safety changes like Blair’s Law and Valentine’s Law, and expanding the role of the state auditor to investigate more governmental bodies. Meatpacking sludge regulations have also been tightened to protect rural neighbors from pollution.
Moreover, the creation of an Office of Entrepreneurship and a regulatory sandbox program aims to boost entrepreneurship in the state by suspending some regulations for innovative products and services to enter the market.
These new laws aim to address various issues ranging from property rights and public safety to education reforms and entrepreneurship. Despite the challenging legislative session, these laws are set to have a significant impact on Missouri residents.
