A San Diego police officer and the driver of another vehicle were killed in a tragic crash following a high-speed chase on Monday night. Another officer who was in the same police vehicle as the deceased officer is in critical condition. The chase began when an officer attempted to pull over a speeding vehicle on Clairemont Mesa Boulevard, but the driver refused to stop and sped away. The chase was called off due to dangerous speeds, but the suspect ultimately crashed into the officers’ vehicle. The identities of the officers and suspect have not been released. An independent investigation will be conducted by the California Highway Patrol to determine exactly what happened. The injured officer is currently in the intensive care unit. The crash also involved two other vehicles, but those drivers escaped without major injuries. Police Chief Scott Wahl expressed deep sorrow for the loss of the officer and praised their dedication to serving the community. The incident serves as a poignant reminder of the risks that police officers face in the line of duty.
