Missouri football stadium to feature two new local on-field sponsorships

Missouri football’s Memorial Stadium is undergoing significant changes ahead of the 2024 season. The athletic department has partnered with Shelter Insurance and Equipment Share, based in Columbia, to display their logos on the playing field. This move follows a recent NCAA ruling allowing corporate sponsorships on the field, potentially worth millions for top schools.

Athletic director Laird Veatch expressed excitement about the partnership and the innovative step it represents for collegiate athletics. As the sports industry landscape evolves, schools are exploring new revenue streams, including direct payments to athletes for their names, images, and likenesses.

In addition to the on-field sponsorship, Memorial Stadium is set for a major renovation of the north concourse, expected to be completed by the 2026 season. The project, approved in April for $250 million, will add premium seating and connect the east and west stands, increasing capacity to approximately 65,000.

Veatch highlighted the fast pace of the renovation, with groundbreaking expected later this year. Despite significant funding needs, progress has been made, with multiple high-value commitments secured. The AD expressed optimism about the project’s future and anticipated further updates at a board of curators meeting in September.

Missouri is positioning itself for success by embracing change and investing in stadium upgrades to remain competitive in the SEC. This proactive approach reflects a commitment to innovation and excellence in collegiate athletics.
