Former Missouri mayor and fleet dispatcher, Corey Louis Hendrickson, has been sentenced to three years in federal prison without parole for stealing nearly $300,000 from more than 500 truck drivers at Prime Inc. Hendrickson used his position to gain access to drivers’ ComData accounts and conducted over 1,000 fraudulent transactions over a five-year period. He embezzled funds by using drivers’ names and social security numbers to transfer money to his personal account, ranging from less than $100 to nearly $6,500 per victim.
Hendrickson, who served as mayor from 2015-2021 and as an alderman the following year, targeted former drivers with positive account balances across the United States. He wrote checks to himself and to TravelCenters of America, which he cashed for personal use. The scheme took place from 2016 to 2021, involving victims from various locations. Prime Inc., a major trucking company based in Springfield, did not immediately respond to inquiries about the sentencing.
The case highlights the importance of companies ensuring the security of their employees’ financial accounts and the consequences of abusing positions of power for personal gain. With Hendrickson now facing prison time and substantial restitution, this serves as a cautionary tale for individuals tempted to engage in fraudulent schemes.
