Missouri State considers Patrick Ransdell for next athletic director position

Patrick Ransdell, the Deputy Athletic Director at Appalachian State, is reportedly a top candidate to become the next athletics director at Missouri State, according to a report from CollegeAD.com. Sources have indicated that Ransdell has emerged as the favorite for the position, with a decision expected to be made at a special meeting of the Missouri State Board of Governors on Wednesday. Ransdell is one of two finalists, with Vince Volpe from Arizona State being the other contender.

If appointed, Ransdell would take over Missouri State athletics at a pivotal time as the school transitions to a Football Bowl Subdivision program in 2025-26 when it joins Conference USA. This transition will likely involve overseeing construction projects, particularly at Plaster Stadium, where significant investments are planned.

In addition to the on-campus challenges, Ransdell would need to navigate the ever-changing collegiate landscape, including issues like the NCAA’s ongoing name, image, and likeness settlements, continued conference realignment, and potential changes to the Group of 5’s role in the College Football Playoff. Overall, Ransdell would be stepping into a complex and dynamic role if he were to take on the position at Missouri State. Neither Ransdell nor Missouri State have commented on the report, which surfaced during the football program’s weekly media availability.
