Body of woman who was swept away in the Grand Canyon flash flood is discovered

Chenoa Nickerson, a 33-year-old visitor to Grand Canyon National Park, was tragically swept away in a flash flood along the Colorado River. Her body was found on Sunday morning, about 20 miles from where she went missing in Havasu Canyon. Her husband was rescued by rafters during the incident.

The area where the flash flood occurred is known for late-summer thunderstorms, and more rain was forecasted for the following days. Some hikers in the area were also stranded and had to be rescued with the help of a helicopter. In total, 100 people were rescued from the affected area.

The family of Chenoa Nickerson expressed their deep grief and gratitude to the National Park Service Search and Rescue team for their efforts in finding her. The Havasupai Tribe also offered heartfelt condolences to her loved ones. As a result of the flash flood, the tribe closed off Havasupai Falls, with support from the Gila River Indian Community.

The tragic incident serves as a reminder of the dangers posed by natural disasters in national parks, especially during the monsoon season. Visitor safety remains a top priority for park officials and first responders, who work tirelessly to ensure the well-being of those exploring the natural wonders of the Grand Canyon.
