Second Manchester airport incident leads to investigation of another police officer | UK news

A second police officer is now under criminal investigation for assault following an incident at Manchester airport involving Muhammed Fahir, 19, and his brother. Video footage emerged showing an officer kicking and stamping on Fahir’s head, leading to protests. More footage revealed the lead-up to the incident, including two female officers being knocked to the ground and Fahir being Tasered. The family’s lawyer claimed that Fahir’s mother was also hit with a Taser by an officer during the altercation.

The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) announced that a GMP constable was under criminal investigation for assault in connection with the arrests of the brothers. The watchdog later confirmed that a second officer was also under investigation for assault and potential gross misconduct for alleged breaches of police professional standards.

The IOPC is investigating whether discriminatory behavior influenced the treatment received by the individuals involved. They will look at the use of force against six members of the public in two incidents, including the arrests shown in the footage and the subsequent arrests of two other men. The investigation will also consider the level of care provided to a woman who reported an injury and a young child present at the time, as well as the language and force used by police towards the arrested men and their subsequent detention in custody.

Four men were arrested on suspicion of affray and assault after the incident and were later released on bail. The IOPC is working with Greater Manchester Police and the Crown Prosecution Service to ensure the investigations progress appropriately.
