Michigan Senate Race: Senate Republicans Launch First Strike

The National Republican Senatorial Committee has launched its first attack ad in Michigan’s Senate race, targeting Democratic Rep. Elissa Slotkin on pandemic relief spending. The ad criticizes Slotkin’s support for government spending during the coronavirus pandemic, including a measure that provided stimulus checks to individuals, including convicted criminals like Larry Nassar and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev. The ad claims that Slotkin’s policies have led to inflation and made life unaffordable for Michigan families. One Nation, the nonprofit arm of the GOP super PAC Senate Leadership Fund, has also launched an ad targeting Slotkin on pandemic spending in Michigan’s competitive 7th District. Slotkin previously defended her support for pandemic relief measures, stating that while the bill was not perfect, it was necessary to address the threat to Michiganders’ health and economic security. Slotkin had faced similar attacks over government spending in her 2022 re-election to the House, which was one of the most expensive races in the country. The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee has also launched TV ads in Michigan, Arizona, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin targeting Republican candidate Mike Rogers, alleging his ties to special interests and business dealings. Rogers’ campaign has stated that he has been transparent about his financial disclosures.
