Project 2025 is wrapping up policy efforts following critique from Trump

The Heritage Foundation official leading Project 2025 is stepping down and the group is winding down its policy work after sustained criticism from former President Donald Trump and his campaign. Trump’s campaign welcomed reports of the group’s demise and warned others not to misrepresent their influence with him. Project 2025 is a collaboration of more than 100 conservative groups aiming to inform a future GOP administration. Democrats have used the group’s policy proposals to criticize Trump ahead of the election. Paul Dans, a former senior Trump official, leads the group, with other advisers including John McEntee. The Harris campaign argues that Project 2025’s policies reflect Trump’s agenda and should concern voters. Russ Vought and Stephen Miller, also former Trump officials, are involved in the group as well. Despite Trump’s criticisms, Project 2025 is not shutting down and has completed its goal of creating a unified conservative vision. The effort to build a personnel database for future policymakers will continue under new leadership. Trump has called Project 2025 a “grifting operation” and has distanced himself from the group. Despite the controversy, the group remains operational and has achieved its primary objectives.
